THE FINAL STRAIGHT LINE

We are only one month for the presidential elections in Chile, and the candidates are already making their bets. They are all very busy with their campaigns, and every day that comes there is a new accusation from the citizens to the government and to them that could be in the power the next year.

The elections will run in December 13, and the candidates are: Sebastian Piñera (Alianza), Eduardo Frei (Concertacion), Marco Enriquez-Ominami (Independent) and last but not least, Jorge Arrate (Juntos Podemos). All of them had already been in debate, and has made public what are their plans for the future. They are all very compromised with the most needing ones, and they are making, as always, a lot of promises.

Piñera’s group are very concerned about their last polls, because although they are still the “winners” they had not move any single percentage, they are not increasing. In these days he has been visiting a lot of different sectors looking for more voters.

In the other side, Eduardo Frei has been very complicated; they have now incorporated some of the ministers to his commando. Jorge Arrate doesn’t seem to move either, and MEO is looking forward to a new increase in his votes.

Now is the final straight line, and it will begin the most interesting part of the competitions, where the candidates goes to different debates and interviews with the most respectful political journalists in our country.

How global warming is affecting our tourism

In our country, we have had for a long time, shortage of sources of energy, especially gas. In order to have what we need, the authorities have proposed to built and hydroelectric center in Aysén that would solve our energy issue.

This has caused some conflicts between the environmental people, who are defending our incredible natural landscape. A lot of people are against this, but there seems not to be other solution.

Our economy is not based in the tourism, but it is a fact the south landscapes are a great attraction to tourist that loves coming to our country to visit the Patagonia, go fishing, etc. It is actually one of the best thing he have, and with this project, we are risking that.

That is exactly what Fernanda Millas said about HidroAysén. “I think there are other ways to make more energy that not kills the nature and the environment, like wind energy”.

Using Aysén, to build this, all the animals will die, and in a large period of time, the nature will be destruct.

There is actually a site in the web to inform citizens about this project, like what is it about, what are the benefits, etc.

Also, a lot of experts are preventing the ice melting, and this could be damaging even more this.

MID TERM WRITING TEST

Texting Blamed in Crash That Kills 3 teens

Andrea Gómez, age 19, Liliana Nunes (18), and Carolina Urrutia(19), has died yesterday outside the discotheque “La Nina” because an irresponsibly driver crashed their car, because he was texting his mom.

Matías Gillo, age 18, was returning to his house after a party in Las Condes, at 3:00 am, when he received a message from his mother asking him where he was, the moment he decided to answer her, he said he didn’t realized he had a car beside, and he tried to change the lane crashing the with the three teenagers inside.

The three girls were starting the university; they were going to study Journalism, in the Universidad de los Andes.

The families of the victims are very pissed of with the responsible, and they are not happy with his sentence. He is now paying his punishment, and he has been taken of his driver license.

In the last years many accidents have been occurred because of the irresponsibility of the drivers. Here in Chile the statistics shows that 5 of every 10 deaths are because of car accidents.

Many campaigns here in Chile has tried to prevent this type of accidents, showing the consequences of driving under the alcohol influence, or because texting while driving. They hadn’t had any results. People are still driving irresponsibly, and acting like they don’t care about their lives.

Last week, a girl was crossing the street correctly, and a driver who was sending a text message to her girlfriend, hit her, causing her death.

“The last thing I wanted was killing her, I made a mistake and I’m conscious about that, and I regret it” said Tomás Hiller, who is now in provisional liberty.

In Wales, they have created an ad that shows a bunch of girl having a good time in a car, while the one who is driving, is at the same time sending a message using her cell phone. Because of that, she causes a terrible crash between lots of cars that ends up killing a lot of people.

That is a very good way to show people the terrible consequences of acting irresponsibly while you are driving, telling them they could end death or with severe damages. “I think that’s the only way for people to understand what are they risking while they’re driving, being aggressive with the images” said the main of Vitacura, who has now release a new campaign for his district.

Not driving under the alcohol influence campaign

Not driving under the alcohol influences campaign
I think that showing the testimony of the survivors could help people to react and be aware of the serious consequences it can leave you an accident, besides from death.

New ads to prevent accidents caused by drunk drivers
A new kind of prevention has come out in television, trying to prevent car accidents caused by driving under alcohol influence. The publicity tries to get to the audience showing an emotional testimony of those who have survived these types of accidents.
The idea was created by a bunch of advertisers in set with the government, who wanted to create more conscience on drivers who drives irresponsibly. This campaign was released last week in Chile, and it seems to be having a good reception on the public.
The statistics showed that in the last semester, they have had around a hundred accidents because of this fact, and thirty people have come dead, being only five of them guilty, and the other twenty five innocents. “This is something that shakes us” said the president of the nation, indicating that this is something to care about, and that she really hopes this campaign will help people to stop driving in this circumstances and being more responsables with themselves and with the others.
The ad starts with a crush showing three people coming out of a car with severe injuries in their bodies followed by four real testimonies of young people who was really been in that situation and have been lucky to tell their story. It is very emotional because many of them have been the ones who were driving, and killed other people, so it makes the publicity very shocking.
It has been asked to people in the streets – mainly young – what they think about this ad, and they all said that it was very good to have this type of publicity, because it seems that we all know the damages it can leave you this kind of behavior, but we still keep doing it.
The victims were very happy to have the opportunity to tell their testimony, and to be part of the ad, showing people the stupidity of driving irresponsibly, mainly the ones who do it under the influences of alcohol.
The advertisers tried to convince those who have killed other innocent people because of their fault, and they said it was very difficult to find someone who wanted to participate. “They are very ashamed, and most of them traumatized, so it was very difficult to convince them to appear in the ad”, told us one of the advertisers, only two of them wanted to be in the advertisement. It would have been interesting and maybe more dramatic, to hear more testimonies of the guiltiest, telling everyone the awful experience they have been through. Maybe that would be more traumatic and shocking to the audience.
The ad will be in the screens till November of this year, expecting to decrease this sort of accidents and to tell people to start being more conscious of how they can ruin their life.

Car accidents consequences

Dear Editor

This morning I read an article about an ad campaign in Wales trying to prevent car accidents - because of the texting while driving – in the New York Times. I thought it would be convenient to have this kind of ads in our country that shows young people the consequences of reckless driving.

Two weeks ago another campaign was released here in the streets of Santiago, telling the drivers not to drive while they are eating, drinking, or talking in their cell phones. I think that everyone knows that this behavior is wrong, but they do it anyway. I think that more drastic campaigns would work, because they can show the real side of the consequences of car accidents. The most violence more is the response. People always get more traumatized when they see violent campaigns showing dead people, or the survivals with traumas.

I think that these types of ads should try to approach the emotional side of the accidents, like the survivals tale or the families of the victims.

It is a fact that people die and die every day because of car accidents, whether it is because texting while you are driving, or because of driving under the alcohol influence, and the ads that the government has tried to applied, hasn’t worked at all. It is time to be more severe and do something to avoid more deaths.

This ad that went out in Wales, it may be too violent, but it sure shows the reality of what is happening, and the awful truth behind crashes. It makes you question yourself about your driving behaviors, and makes you want to be more responsable, because you are scared to end like that.

The video shows a group of friends that are having a good time inside a car, while one of them is driving – very distracted – writing a text message. Then the car accident occurred, causing the death of her friends and other victims.

I think that what we need is more shocking ads, causing really conscience in people.

An open minded country

From drugs to sex trade, Amsterdam is willing to show you everything they got

A lot of people smoking weed in coffee shops, or even on the streets. Hanging out for a while with some friends or just studying. It seems to be very normal; they are obviously used to this in a free minded country like Holland. You can’t imagine this same picture in my country, Chile. Here – in Amsterdam – nobody cares about what are you or aren’t doing.

They are a very open minded society, you can find different stores where you can buy many types of weed, and they are all over the city. You can also go to the nearer coffee shop where you will find a menu with different sorts of beeps. Nobody is going to say anything to you, because it’s legal, and most of the citizens do it currently.

Every tourist that goes to Amsterdam visits this places looking for a new adventure, thinking that they will feel freer because there, it’s normal and they will not have to hide from the law like in their countries. It’s an attraction from this great city, and is impossible not to at least enter to one. I wasn’t alone; I went with my very traditional parents, who thought this was horrified.

Well that isn’t all the freedoms that the Dutch have, they also have this famous place called the Red-light district, where different types of women offer themselves. I was impressed by all the variety they have, from incredibly beautiful young ladies to very fat and old ones. There was definitely a kind for each taste. There was an old couple from Spain, who couldn’t believe all the sin they were watching, they were practically shocked; they even told us not to go. Of course, we went anyway.

It is a very interesting place to go, you really can’t expect anything, of course you have to go with an open mind, and ready to see everything, From people smoking anywhere at any time, to very young prostitutes ready to satisfy every male sexual fantasy.
